What are pipe clamps, pipe supports and pipe hangers?

A pipe clamp is a bolted pipe attachment which clamps around the pipe to connect the pipe to the remainder of a pipe hanger assembly.

A pipe support or pipe hanger is a designed industrial product that transfer the load from a pipe or tube to the supporting structures. The load includes the weight of the pipe proper, the content that the pipe carries, all the pipe fittings attached to pipe, and the pipe covering such as insulation. The four main functions of a pipe support are to anchor, guide, anti-vibration, and support a specified load. Pipe supports used in high or low temperature applications may contain insulation materials.

Pipe clamps are widely used for supporting suspended pipes. They are also used to work as clamped pipe shoes. Pipe clamps can be defined as bolted circular or semi-circular pipe attachments that clamp around a pipe or a tube and connect the pipe with other assembly components for proper support. These piping clamps transfer loads of the piping system to the structure. A wide variety of piping clamps are available to use as pipe support attachments.

Materials of Pipe clamps

Our factory’s pipe clamps are available in a wide range of materials upon customers’ request. And here below are the list of some popular materials for manufacturing the pipe clamps and supports.

  • Carbon steel: including A36, ST52.3, E355, E235 and so on.
  • Stainless steel: such as 304 stainless steel, 316 SS / 316L SS, 316Ti and so on. Stainless steel pipe clamps are widely used in applications where anti-corrosion is required.
  • Aluminum:
  • Plastic: Including PP, PA, Nylon, PE, PVC, etc. Pipe clamps with these materials are known as plastic pipe clamps, nylon pipe clamps, PVC pipe clamps and so on.
  • Rubber: rubber pipe clamps are usually refer to the rubber coated or lined pipe clamps.

Specifications of Pipe clamps, Pipe support and pipe hangers

Our pipe clamps, hangers and supports either are manufactured according to some international standards, or customized according to customers’ drawings and specifications. Depends on the different types, here below are the most popular specification standards our factory can follow.

  • DIN 3015 standard: DIN 3015-1, DIN 3015-2, DIN3015-3
  • DIN 3567-A, DIN 3567-B: this is the DIN standard for two bolt steel pipe clamps and three bolt steel pipe clamps.
  • DIN 3570: this is the specification standard for U bolt pipe clamps.
  • DIN 1592, DIN 1593, DIN1596, DIN1597: these are the standards for some small size tube clamps.

Surface finish of Pipe support

For Stainless steel pipe clamps & pipe supports, the surface finishing is available as below.

  • Pickled surface, with scales and rust removed
  • Polished and cleaned
  • Sandblasting
  • Xylan coated; PTFE coated for some special requirements.

For carbon steel pipe clamps and pipe supports, we provide more surface finish options to our customers as below, mostly for the reason of anti-corrosion.

  • Zinc coated: known as cold galvanized also, with white or yellow bright surface
  • Hot dipped galvanized: HDG pipe clamps have good corrosion resistant performance.
  • Phosphated
  • Painted /coated surface such as epoxy coating, Xylan coating, PTFE coating and so on.
  • Rubber insulated; PTFE insulated surface

Besides the above surface finishing, we also provide customized pipe clamp surface finishing upon customers’ requirements.

 

Pipe Clamp insulation

For the reasons such as corrosion resistant, anti-vibration, protecting the piping from damage, or protecting the coating of the piping, or for easy moving, sometimes the pipe clamps and pipe supports are insulated with rubber, PTFE, plastic and other materials. These are known as pipe clamp cushion also.

And, for reliable fixings of refrigeration and air conditioning pipelines, the insulated pipe clamps are required. Our pipe clamp factory can provide all kinds of pipe clamp insulation (pipe clamp cushion) upon customer’s requests.

  • FABRICATED RISER CLAMP


APPLICATIONS:
In situations where the use of a welded lug attachment would create an undesirable crushing effect on the pipe wall, this clamp can transfer the load from the pipe wall to the riser clamp by means of hold-down lugs welded to the pipe.

Clamps may be furnished in either Carbon or Alloy steel with bolting to suit, using an allowable stress of 10,000 PSI. Temperature correction factors listed in “CHART A” are based on allowable stresses listed in MSS-SP-58.

METHODS OF SELECTION:
1. Determine total load to be supported and service temperature of the piping system.
2. Refer to “CHART A (table below)” and determine the temperature correction factor for the clamp material being used.
3. Multiply total load by the correction factor to obtain a corrected load.
4. Refer to “CHART C (below)” and locate the point determined by the intersection of the total load co-ordinate and the pipe size curve. Project this point horizontally until it intersects with the “D” dimension coordinate. Directly above this point is the required stock size.
5. The bolt diameter is obtained by using the uncorrected total load and referring to “CHART B (below)”.

ORDERING: Specify pipe outside diameter, total load, design temperature, material and dimension “D” or center to center of hanger rods.

NOTE: Pipe clamp can be fabricated to any specified material.

  • U BOLT PIPE CLAMPS

U bolt pipe clamp is known as U bolt clamp and U bolt, it is made of steel round bar, and can fully surrounds pipe, conduit, and tubing for a secure fit. As one of the leading China pipe clamp manufacturer factories, we produce and supply various types of U bolt clamps, and with different accessories.

Corrosion prevention as common U-bolts and pipe caused by contact between the accelerated corrosion of metal. Corrosion and erosion over the final holes into pinhole leaks. Using sharp U-rubber bolts step can remove the above-corrosion.

Our factory Younglee’s U-bolt rubber sheath for the ethylene-propylene rubber (EPDM), and its superior resistance to ultraviolet radiation, even prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and still maintain stability; maximum working temperature can reach 160 degrees. Low surface friction coefficient, tear capability and, in the bolts are tightened to protect pipe coating from damage, both insulation and cushioning effect. 

Hot-dip zinc plating, cadmium, XYLAN coated U-bolts to ensure the bulk of the corrosion resistance, but can also provide stainless steel bolts.

APPLICATIONS: Fig. PTP HD-2 hold down pipe clamp is a restraint type hold down. The hold down clamp steel radius as well as the base is lined with high quality PTFE, 25% glass filled, slide plate, allowing axial movement while restraining lateral movement. It is generally used on compressor lines where temperature is high and thermal movement is great.

APPLICATIONS: Fig. PTP HD-3 hold down pipe clamp is an arrestor type hold down. This hold down clamp is actually a restraint that is used when there is very low thermal movement. Its radius is lined with a belting material that is well designed to absorb shock from vibration. This type is generally used on compressor lines or similar application.

NOTE: Belting material remains impervious to heat up to 200°F.

  • Reliable Packing: Normally the pipe clamps and supports will be packed in cartons, and then we pack the cartons on pallets firmly, and if customers request, we can also pack the pipe supports into wooden cases. The package is suitable for sea transportation, air transportation and land transportation.
  • Strictly quality control: Our factory has a QC team of more than 20 persons. Every pipe clamp and pipe support will be inspected before shipment. The inspections are carried according to corresponding standards and customers’ requests, main test which including: Chemical Analysis Test, Tensile Test, Dimension Inspection, Spray salt Test, Coating thickness test, and other tests according to standards and cusotmer’s requirements.
